We're Still Here

Sorry for the lack of updates lately, rest assured we are still here!

Carney is still peeing and pooping all over everything.
Chester is still emptying the litter box almost daily.
Niko is still a hunkering bunny who just wants to be pet.

A few months ago, I switched the litter box to a huge one, the cement mixing tub. Yeah, Chester still manages to kick out litter. He just digs and digs in it. I might try a Rubbermaid type storage bin with a hole cut in the side and a vented lid... Of course, he'd probably just get better aim!

Wag.com!

My aunt-in-law recently gave me a cute glass hen sitting on a nest candy dish. She gave it to me in a box labeled "Wag.com" with pics of dogs, cats and other pets on it. I had never heard of them, so checked it out. I'm glad I did!

Three bunnies eat a lot of food. I feed Oxbow timothy pellets, which are not exactly cheap. Petsmart has them for $14 for a 5 lb bag... Wag.com has them for $17 for a 10 lb bag, free 2 day shipping on orders over $49! You can save 10% off on your first order and can earn points for free things! They have a decent selection for rabbits and other small and furry animals. I haven't look at their dog supplies too closely, but will for my next order.

Here is our order:

2 bags of Oxbow pellets, Oxbow oat hay, two willow balls and a grass mat. And the box will be a bunny toy too!

Best Friends Animal Society is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring about a day when there are No More Homeless Pets®. By building no-kill programs and partnerships, helping animals find homes, and addressing problems at the very root of animal homelessness, Best Friends has become a leader in the animal welfare movement. But its heart and headquarters is still in the place where it all began, at the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for homeless pets in Kanab, Utah.
Here, you'll find around 1,700 homeless animals on any given day, where they get state-of-the-art medical, behavioral and emotional care in a spacious, sociable setting unlike anywhere else on earth. The vast majority of them will then move on to loving, adoptive homes, and they're welcome at the Sanctuary for as long as it takes.
In addition, Best Friends works to save the lives of homeless animals all across the country by supporting spay/neuter programs, rescuing dogs from puppy mills, running public education campaigns about the importance of animal adoption, and much more.

Destruct-o-Buns

Somebunny (Chester) has been bad...

Four days in a row, I've found this:

Chester isn't admitting to anything.

So we are switching to a different litter box.

A much larger litter box.

Chester needs some consoling...

Just A Few Pics

New litter boxes from binkybunny.com
These are the large boxes with a screen (blue and grey boxes).
The screen lifts out the poop and lets the urine go below, helps keep things a bit neater.
(Now to get Carney completely potty trained....)

New Digs!

We quickly realized that our existing rabbit pen wasn't going to work for the trio. It was a 4x4 ft dog exercise pen set on a vinyl wrapped piece of plywood. We decided to give them the back part of the basement walkout. The pen stretches nicely across the area, so we didn't have to buy another pen.
This space is almost 13 ft across and 9 ft deep at the narrow end. The door leads into the bathroom, which has two doors. The pen has a gate, so we can easily let them out into the rest of the walkout.
This is the vinyl wrapped piece of plywood. You can see how small it is for three rabbits!

Welcome!

Hello! My name is Jennifer and I wanted to put together a little blog for our new additions. On August 14th, 2012, we adopted a trio of rabbits.
Now the fun begins... I'll have to look at the paperwork again, but they are 3-4 years old. This is Chester. He's a Lop. So far, he's pretty shy, but he was the first to binky across the basement!
This is Carney. She's an American Chinchilla. She is the most active and the first to greet you. She's also the biggest. We kept her name. She is Carney because she was a carnival game prize...
And finally, Niko. He's the smallest of the group and is a Lionhead. His personality so far is pretty mellow. He doesn't like to be picked up, but hunkers down for you to pet him.
How many bunnies fit in a litter box? Three!
